Marcel Breuer - Marcel Breuer -
Marcel Breuer was born in Germany in 1902. He was one of the first students at the Bauhaus school and taught the school's furniture department after graduating. Invited by Gropius, he moved to the United States and became a professor at Harvard University in 1937. He is known for his design theory pursuing functionality and mass production and is one of the Bauhaus's representative architects. His early works included upholstered wooden pieces such as the "African Chair". Eventually, his designs shifted toward simple geometric forms emphasizing horizontal and vertical lines. In 1925, inspired by bicycle frames, he began using steel pipes in furniture. After teaching at the Bauhaus in Dessau until 1928, he worked on architecture and interior design in Berlin for three years. His works from this period include the "De Francesco Apartment" and the "Raum House".

The first work in the world to use steel pipes is the "Wassily Chair", designed by the Bauhaus master Marcel Breuer.
The Bauhaus emerged in Germany after its defeat in World War I. Marcel Breuer, one of its first students, designed it for Professor Wassily Kandinsky. It is said to be a pioneering work of modernist design composed of lines and planes.
