For longtime fans, the release of such a comprehensive collection of recordings by Celibidache—who famously disliked recording—in his final years is like a dream come true. The messages packed into these discs are so dense they almost seem unable to be contained even by his ultra-slow tempos. Music only truly lives through a succession of brilliant moments. That is precisely why he obsessed over the details. It is an organic fusion of the individual and the universal—Celibidache's unique world, where moments and continuity repeat. At this point, it doesn't matter if these are "masterpieces" or not; it is the joy of witnessing the "events" of sound and resonance that Celibidache triggers. These are works where the raw diamond that is Bruckner has been thoroughly polished using Celibidache’s own methods.
