A master recorder incorporating TEAC's latest magnetic recording technology and expertise. To ensure high-precision mounting of key tape-transport components such as the impedance roller, tension arm, and heads, this deck uses a precision-machined die-cast base designed to resist changes over time. The dynamically balanced impedance roller absorbs irregularities in tape movement and wow and flutter, ensuring smooth tape transport. The oil-damped tension arm maintains stable tension, ensures a smooth start, and prevents the sound from dropping out. The distance between the capstan and heads, as well as between the heads themselves, is minimized. The optimum tape-to-head contact angle also helps reduce modulation noise. A counter roller, paired with a tension arm designed to keep the tape wrap angle constant, prevents irregularities in tape movement. The tape transport uses DC servo electronically commutated motors. Powered by 24 V, these motors use a servo detection circuit to electronically control rotation and maintain a constant speed. Because they have no mechanical contacts, they eliminate noise caused by friction and performance degradation due to wear. The mechanism is controlled by an IC-based logic circuit. With no mechanical contacts such as relays, it provides highly reliable mode operation. It also features direct-function operation, allowing you to switch freely from fast-forward or rewind directly to playback, for example. Recording can also be started in the middle of playback. Equipped with peak-level meters with a scale range of -40 dB to +5 dB. An electronic circuit with a 10 ms response time enables accurate readings, even for brief pulse sounds. There are four microphone inputs, with two microphone setups available for each of the left and right channels, allowing two-channel mix recording with four microphones. There are also two line inputs for each channel, enabling line-to-line mix recording. Mix recording with two microphone inputs and two line inputs is also possible. The microphone amplifier uses a high supply voltage of 45 V and a combination of PNP-NPN transistors and direct coupling to improve voltage utilization and significantly increase dynamic margin. Independent left and right microphone attenuators provide 20 dB of attenuation to prevent distortion in the microphone amplifier from excessive input, such as when using close-miking techniques. A master recording-level control lets you adjust all input levels with a single knob. The input-level controls feature memory markers with click stops. Turn a control to its preset position and the click stop lets you confirm the setting. A cueing mechanism lets you monitor audio by raising the cue lever during fast-forward, making it easy to find the beginning of a track or a section to edit. In playback-pause mode, the tape remains in contact with the heads, so you can turn the reel by hand to check the precise edit position. The deck also features an edit function. With the switch turned ON, pressing PLAY feeds out the tape while the take-up reel remains stopped. |
